My review of the Beurer TL35 light therapy lamp after several months of use
When I started seriously exploring light therapy, I was looking for a concrete solution to a problem that was clearly affecting my energy and my mood — living in a dark apartment.
I chose the Beurer TL35. After several months of daily use, here's my complete, honest review based on real experience.
Beurer TL35 light therapy lampWhy I chose the Beurer TL35
Before buying my first light therapy lamp, I spent an unreasonable amount of time comparing models.
I wanted something that was:
- Compact (I didn't have a lot of space)
- Stylish (I work right next to it)
- Powerful (10,000 lux minimum — but is that really enough? More on that below...)
- Simple to use
The TL35 ticked every box.
Its tablet-style format immediately appealed to me. Unlike bulky lamps, it fits neatly on a desk without making you feel like you're in a doctor's office 😊
Unboxing the Beurer TL35: first impressions
When it arrived, first surprise: the lamp was much slimmer than I'd imagined.
- Ultra-flat design.
- Lightweight.
- Removable stand.
- Great build quality (that German precision is immediately obvious).
- Incredibly simple to use.
I put it straight on my desk next to my screen, and it blended naturally into my workspace. It even has a slightly futuristic look that I really like 😁
Clearly, this is a product designed for everyday use.
Features
What I love about this lamp is how simple it is to use. I think that's a hallmark of the Beurer brand — no unnecessary gadgets, just straight to the point, which I appreciate!
- Three colour temperatures.
- Three intensity levels.
- Three programmable session lengths.
I've written a guide if you want to understand why having 3 colour temperatures is useful.
In practice, I always used this lamp in the morning, at 6,400 kelvins and maximum power.
Being able to programme an automatic shut-off is incredibly useful — essential, really. It prevents you from over-exposing yourself beyond what you intended, and if you have to leave the room mid-session, the lamp won't stay on needlessly.
My daily routine with the lamp
My routine was simple. Every morning:
- I'd switch the lamp on as I started work;
- I'd position it slightly to the side, to the left of my computer screen;
- I'd set the 30-minute timer.
I didn't stare at it. I worked, read my emails, wrote... and the light did its thing in the background.
Benefits I experienced
✔ Compact size
One of its biggest strengths. It takes up very little space.
✔ Discreet design
You can use it at your desk without drawing attention.
✔ Adjustable intensity
Handy if you're sensitive to light.
✔ Even light distribution
The light is uniform and non-aggressive.
✔ Simple to use
Three buttons, no complicated settings — straightforward and no-fuss, just the way I like it.
Downsides to be aware of
No lamp is perfect, unfortunately.
✖ Compact size = smaller light zone
The compact format is an advantage, but it has its limits. The exposure zone is small, and at 10,000 lux you need to be 13 to 15 cm away — which is hard to maintain in practice if you want to do something else at the same time.
I'll be completely honest with you. You may have noticed I've been writing in the past tense when describing this lamp — because in practice, while I still use it occasionally, my light therapy glasses have largely replaced it.
At 10,000 lux, you'll need to have your face right in front of the lamp to get the full benefit.
One workaround is to extend your sessions. Instead of setting a 30-minute timer, you can leave it on for an hour or more, glancing at it occasionally to improve the effect.
Alternatively, a more powerful 14,000-lux lamp is the ideal solution.
My final verdict
The Beurer TL35 light therapy lamp isn't a bad lamp — but you do need to understand the limitations of this format and its 10,000 lux output if you want to use it effectively.
If I could go back, I wouldn't choose this model. I'd go straight for the Beurer TL95 — it's still compact (which is a must for me), but the 14,000 lux means you can use it from a greater distance.
The TL95 is simply a better option all round. The only downside is that it's slightly more expensive than the TL35.
Sticking with Beurer matters to me because the brand has won me over completely in terms of reliability, ergonomics, and trustworthiness.
In summary: if you can do your sessions with the lamp positioned right in front of your face without needing to multitask, and if your budget is tight, the Beurer TL35 is still a good buy.
But if, like me, you want to place it further away and get things done at the same time, I'd strongly recommend the TL95.
Before you decide, I'd strongly recommend reading my review of the Luminette 3 and my lamp vs glasses comparison — they might change your mind entirely.
