First impressions of the AYO+ light therapy glasses: pros and cons

I'm genuinely excited to discover these glasses, which promise an innovative light therapy experience. They're now the ones accompanying me through my daily sessions to boost my cognitive and athletic performance. After all, light therapy doesn't just improve sleep quality or help with conditions like seasonal depression: it can also optimise your performance and overall wellbeing all year round.

Unboxing the AYO glasses

These premium light therapy glasses come in two versions: the classic white and blue edition, and an exclusive "carbon black" edition. It's this second edition that I have in my hands.

Opening the box, you'll find:

  • a protective case with the glasses inside;
  • a carrying pouch;
  • a USB-C cable (around 1 metre long);
  • a user manual;
  • a warranty certificate.

Everything you need is right there, no complaints. The design of the rigid storage case is particularly impressive.

It's a beautiful object that will look great wherever you put it and will definitely spark curiosity among your guests 😊. It will protect your glasses perfectly while you're travelling.

The user manual is very thorough. It includes a QR code that lets you install the dedicated app in just a few seconds. I'll be covering this app in a separate article very soon, because it's actually one of the biggest strengths of these light therapy glasses.

The app gives you personalised advice and lets you track your light therapy sessions in the best possible way. You can also save different routines to help improve the quality of your sleep.

The USB-C cable is one metre long, with a USB-C connector on each end. Most recent smartphones can charge small devices through their USB port, which can be really handy. My Pixel 7 charges my glasses without any issue.

After your purchase, you have 2 months to try the glasses and return them if you're not satisfied. This is exceptional and shows just how confident the manufacturer is in the quality of its product.

The manufacturer's warranty is one year, with an option to extend it to two years.

For these reasons, if you'd like to buy them, I'd recommend ordering directly from the manufacturer's website.

First impressions and comfort

Time to get to the main subject: the glasses!

As for the design, I'll let you be the judge. Personally, I think they look fantastic. They're discreet and futuristic. To me, this is a flawless design and I honestly don't see how the glasses could look any better.

In hand, there's no doubt this is a premium product. The materials feel high quality, the finish is flawless, and everything about it feels solid.

They're very lightweight (35 grams) and beautifully balanced. Unlike other glasses, the weight isn't carried entirely on your nose, but spread evenly between your nose and ears. This means you shouldn't get any redness on your skin, unlike with some other glasses.

Opening one of the arms automatically turns the glasses on. That's a really nice touch.

Features

The AYO+ glasses offer several useful features:

  • automatically starts a light therapy session when you open one of the arms;
  • charge indicator on both the glasses and the app;
  • the app lets you switch between blue light and red light, adjust session length and light intensity;
  • the option to personalise your settings and optimise your sessions based on your habits, by entering your work, wake-up and bedtime schedules into the app.

These glasses can therefore help with a range of issues and provide an effective solution for sleep problems, fatigue and jet lag. You can set up the app to improve your sleep quality, or your cognitive and athletic performance, among other things.

The app also offers advice articles based on the latest scientific knowledge in light therapy and wellbeing. So you have everything you need to fine-tune your sessions and get the most out of your AYO+ glasses.

Everything has been designed to improve and optimise your circadian rhythm. Many aspects of your health are linked to your circadian rhythm, and keeping it in balance is essential for both physical and mental wellbeing.

How effective are the AYO light therapy glasses?

I'll be sharing regular updates to give you a genuine, real-world account of how these glasses perform. Based on my experience with light therapy lamps and glasses, I can already say there shouldn't be any unpleasant surprises, since the blue wavelength used here is optimal for light therapy.

The benefits of the AYO+ glasses

Look of the AYO light therapy glasses
I think these glasses look genuinely fantastic

✔ The design

As I mentioned, designed in Germany, these AYO+ glasses are absolutely gorgeous, and I wouldn't hesitate for a second to wear them at work if I needed to.

✔ The dedicated app

I'll be giving this app a thorough review soon, but I can already tell you it makes a huge difference, helping you get the most out of every light therapy session.

The app powers your glasses and acts as a personal coach, giving you plenty of advice to help you make the most of your day. It shows you the best times in your day to exercise or do focused mental work.

✔ The type of light

The glasses emit blue light at the optimal wavelength for light therapy. That's not the case for every pair of glasses on the market.

The AYO+ glasses can also emit red light to support relaxation and sleep.

✔ Compatible with prescription glasses

I wear prescription glasses and was able to use the AYO+ glasses without any issue.

✔ The weight

At just 35 grams, spread between your ears and nose, you completely forget you're wearing them. Total comfort.

✔ Battery life

I managed to get nearly 7 light therapy sessions out of a single charge.

Downsides to be aware of

The AYO glasses in their white and blue version

✖ Manual and app only in English

The manual and app are only available in English. This doesn't really get in the way of using the glasses themselves, since they're intuitive to operate. The app can also be used without needing strong English skills, as it's very visual and uses clear icons. I'll be writing a dedicated article on the app to help you get the most out of all its features...

✖ A significant investment

The price of these glasses can be a significant investment for some people. That said, it's worth considering the quality and features on offer. From my point of view, the value for money is actually better than what other glasses brands offer.

Where to buy the AYO glasses?

I'd recommend buying directly from the manufacturer's website. This guarantees you're getting the genuine product and the warranties that come with it.

My final verdict

As you've probably gathered by now, I've been thoroughly won over by the AYO+ light therapy glasses. For me, they're flawless in terms of design, build quality and features. I'm confident these glasses will be with me for many years to come, and I can only recommend them.

I can't wait to try the red light mode in more depth, since I'd never used it for light therapy before. Being able to switch between blue and red light with the same pair of glasses is a real bonus.

If you want to find out more, I'd recommend visiting GOAYO's website, which has plenty of useful information.
